The Importance of Scholarships

Scholarships are a huge factor in paying for college but one thing that I want a scholarship for is to brag about it because getting a full ride somewhere is definitely something to brag about. Without scholarships some people might not get the education they want because they can't afford it but with scholarships people can further their education and experience a better life. I can't wait to go to college but unless I get a scholarship I won't go somewhere huge cause it is too expensive I think that scholarships can make you have the best education you just have to work and apply for it.

College Reflection

The main thing I have to do is take the ACT and I already took the SAT but I wanna take it again because I was not satisfied with my grades. I need to get my GPA up so I look like a smarter student. And of course I need to graduate high school successfully. I will take my ACT first next time I can then I will wait a little bit and take the SAT another time and hopefully do great on it. Then I will be working on making good grades and bringing my GPA up. Then I will graduate. I am where I need to be academically but I am not where I want to be because I want to have a better GPA and finish off good. I know UTA is one for me because that will be my college of choice if I get no scholarships. Now I might try and start my first two years at a community college to save some money and time.

U.S. School System vs. Others

I believe the U.S. School System is great I think it is one of the best education system around the world and I like learning the way we do here. Now what I saw in Canada is that they have schools for foreign students so they can go to school with kids that are all like each other. They do this because a lot of people in Canada's first language is French. Other than that they start about the same age as us and it is very similar to ours they have a lot of the same schools as us. It is a little bit sad though because in the U.S. we have all the resources we could need and there are still people who are better and more educated and wiser than we are.

What is a College Degree really worth?

Yes college is worth it, it is one of the biggest investments and best choices you could make. Going to college and graduating doesn't guarantee your success you guarantee your own success and you do that with your hard work, dedication, determination, and ability to work with others. I believe without a college degree you can't get as far in life as people who have a college degree and work hard. It is also a great achievement in your life to successfully graduate college. Even though college cost a lot it is still worth it because the degree you receive will end you granting you the money you paid for college and then double or maybe triple it. College isn't just something that isn't a big deal it is a choice that will impact your whole life and I believe that in today's society you won't get anywhere without an education and a good work ethnic. No matter what anyone tells you a college degree will be the smartest and most beneficial to you.

Spring Break

I went camping the first few days, then I went to the Dallas World Aquarium with my girlfriend and it was very exciting and fun. I then got to play the best sport to ever be created I got to play baseball. Even though we didn't win at all I still had fun because that is the funnest sport to me. Then I got to rest and be lazy for a couple of days and it was amazing.

Fridays 3 Questions

  1. My Mother has probably been the most influential person in my life. Everything she does she does it the the best of her abilities and makes the right decision almost everytime a conflict happens she is the best role model I could have and I would be lucky to achieve half the stuff she has and be half the person she is
  2. I think Mr. Keatings poem means that we live for the love and romantic parts in life but there are also other parts in our lives such as working and engineering and I agree with that we hang around people who we love and who have love for us and you can't get anywhere without working. I believe we read poetry because poetry can express anything any emotion or any feeling but I think we read it because we want to know that other people are going through what we are going through.
  3. I agree that you should always look at things in another perspective or their point of view because maybe its better than yours and maybe you are both right. I remember one time when I was a little kid me and my friend argued on who was right when I said one plus three is four when he said so is two plus two and I thought he was wrong then I ended up noticing he was right.
  4. My 'verse' I want to leave on the world is to be the best guy possible to be remembered for great things and make sure everyone knows that I am a great role model and I want to show everyone that its okay to make mistakes but I think my lasting impression is to seize the day and live your life the way you want because you have to make sure you are happy and you do everything for you and make sure its the right thing too though.

3 Questions

  1. I think that Neil still would have committed suicide eventually because his dad would have pushed him to the limit eventually and the only way he wouldn't have killed himself is if he moved out or if he did his own thing and his father let him.
  2. I think the bravest was Charlie Nwanda because he was himself and did whatever he wanted, Cameron was the coward and was the reason charlie punched him in the face because he was a coward.
  3. I think the boys would've thought Mr. Keating was trying to help him and that Mr. Keating gave it to him when Neil went to visit him and I think Neil asked him for help and Mr. Keating gave him that and the dad just saw it and blamed him.

The Theme You choose to describe

I believe the main theme was "Carpe Diem" which means seize the day and I also think that this was what really started everything for the guys to start living how they wanted to live and not how everyone else wanted them to live. This is also what made all of them look up to Mr. Keating and it is what mainly started the Dead Poets Society and I think that Mr. Keating taught the boys to really live how they wanted and to not just make everyone happy because it is impossible so just make sure you are happy doing what you want. Seize the day means to live your life how you want but make the right choices and to pretty much don't do something unless you want to not if everyone else wants you to you got to live it your way. I try living this way because I feel like if I try to impress everyone I will never be happy because it will never be where everyone likes you sometimes people are going to hate you and not like you and you just can't let them into your life and only live with positive people around and always have positive vibes.

Follow Up Character Question

1. I think Charlie or Nwanda was transformed the most just because he like didn't care and thought everything was stupid then he went and became the craziest and most supporting in the dead poets society and he also cared the most about everyone.
2. I think Cameron stayed the same and just wanted to get through school and not get in trouble and do whatever people wanted him to do.
3. I think Mr. Keating is a leader and a role model type of character and I don't think he was changed I just think he realized how much people looked up to him and he will use that in the future so he knows.
4. Neil Perry overcame his fear but it ended up not working out and his father pushes him over the limit. Knox Overstreet was scared to get beat up by his crushes boyfriend but it ended up that his crush liked him a little too and he was very brave because he was always trying to get her and see her. Charlie Dalton was a very brave person no matter what I can't really point out his main fear but I think his biggest fear was getting caught doing the wrong thing and getting in trouble. Todd Anderson was a brave kid but he was also very shy and he was mainly scared of his parents and having to follow in his brothers footsteps not knowing if he will be able to fulfill them and he wanted his parents to love him but he also wanted to express himself freely.

Discussion #3 and #5

1.) Betty is seen to have a tremendous reaction towards Joan's application to study in Yale. Why? If you were Betty, would you have similar reaction?

I would have been very surprised because back then it was not known for women to go into law and go away from home and stuff. I think Betty was scared and just didn't want her to leave because they were both about to get married and once you get married you m
ust be a good wife and have dinner ready everyday by 5 o'clock.
2.) Betty's marriage to Spencer – do you think she was happy? Note her mother's refusal to let her stay with her. Why?
I do not think she was happy I think she was forced to marry him and he didn't even want her he wanted to do whatever he wanted to that's why he cheated on her. She was forced to because she was supposed to look like a well off good looking married women with a man who can support her.

Teaching Then vs. Now

The style of teaching that the movie Mona Lisa smile is trying to make them teach is the traditional have everything planned on a syllabus and only teach with notes and power-points and stuff. Now we are taught any sort of form and style so that we can just learn the material we need to know no matter how they teach it as long as it works. That's why Ms. Watson could teach so well because she would give real life situations and go out into the real world and show them material and help them understand better. I think that in the extract its saying you should only know the facts and shouldn't have any different opinions, I believe this is wrong every one has a right to their own opinion and should be able to believe and think independently. Katherine Watson is not about just facts she was about creativity and believing in whatever you thought was right and not letting others tell you whats right, Charles Dickens says in his novel "Hard Times" that everyone should learn the same and know all the same facts because he thought the world would be better like that. Ms. Watson was such a good teacher but Wellsley did not like her teacher strategies and made her teach a certain way and certain style and Ms. Watson did not like that so she left and went to go some where either where she can learn more about art or where she can teach her way.

My thoughts of the Movie

I thought the movie was a great movie but I feel like it could have ended better because the guy could have actually ended up with the teacher and they live happily ever after. I learned that you shouldn't always assume people are happy because sometimes they could be putting on an act and really they are hurting on the inside. Don't let people walk over you you have to take control and show them who is in charge. My favorite part was when all the girls made art for her.

Mona Lisa Smile

I think the movie Mona Lisa Smile is going to be about an all girls type school about art. The teacher is going to get stressed because the students are going to try and take control over her. The students start trying to take over but the teacher tells them no and the students threaten her. The teacher doesn't care and starts showing them who is boss then the students start liking her. Then the teacher helps them get into the real world with a good job and a good life.

College vs. High School

In my opinion college will be so much harder than high school just because that college takes less test but are worth more but in high school if you mess up on one test you can do good on the next and just be fine but college you only get a little bit of test's so you have to make sure and do good on every single one of them. In high school you can get away with procrastination but in college you most likely wont get away with it that's also like in college you should study as often as possible so you can do the best in every course but in high school no one study's that much only if its a huge test or assignment. The easiest test to me are the ones we do weekly because you just went over it so it should be the easiest but I think the hardest ones are state testing like the STAAR test and the CFA  because you have to know a wide variety of things from different types of history but I like just focusing on stuff you just went over because then you might get things mixed up.
